    Hello.
Congratulations on this amazing plugin and thank you for allowing us to use it for free.
We are experiencing an issue, and that is that in the TOOLS, we cannot EDIT FILES (I show a screenshot), that tool is not displayed.

I have searched for answers in threads opened by other users, but I don’t see any case like mine.
What reasons could there be for the FILE EDITOR not being active in Yoast? Do I need to activate it somehow?
However, when I enter the path mywebsite.es/robots.txt, I receive the following: START YOAST BLOCK —————————

    User-agent: *
    Disallow:

Sitemap: https://mywebsite.es/sitemap_index.xml ————————— END YOAST BLOCK

I am a little puzzled, and since I didn’t find any similar topic on the entire site, I asked the question.
I hope someone has some ideas on what I should do.
    Thanks!!

  • Hello miguel,

Thank you for reaching out and for your kind words about Yoast SEO! Let’s address your concern about the missing File Editor tool.

Possible Reasons Why the File Editor Tool is Not Active:

    1. Disabled File Editing in WordPress
File editing may have been disabled at the WordPress configuration level.
Check the wp-config.php file for the following line:
      define('DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT', true);
If this line exists and is set to true, it disables the File Editor in Yoast (and other plugins) for security reasons.
    2. Server Configuration Restrictions
Certain hosting providers disable direct file editing to protect against unauthorized changes. If your host has restricted access, you may need to use their file management tools or contact their support for assistance.
    3. Insufficient User Permissions
Only administrators can access the File Editor in Yoast SEO. Ensure that your user role is set to “Administrator.”
    4. Yoast SEO Advanced Settings Disabled
If advanced features in Yoast SEO are not enabled, some tools might not appear.
Go to SEO → General → Features, and ensure “Advanced settings” is enabled.

    Hi @miguelappstudio

Yoast SEO, by default, uses the robots.txt file that WordPress creates dynamically. You or your server admin can override the dynamic file by adding a custom robots.txt file at the same server path.

If you do not see the option to create or edit the file, WordPress has disabled file editing, or your server doesn’t allow writing to the file. Your web host can help you enable these features if you want to use Yoast SEO to edit the robots.txt file. Alternatively, you can always create or edit the file at the server level.

    Hi @611shabnam
    Thanks for your quick response.
Now, thanks to your explanation, I understand what is happening.
I am sure that it is the server security that prevents the files from being edited from Yoast SEO.
I will manually create this file and look for documentation to add the RULES that will most benefit my website.
I really appreciate your support in this case, I congratulate you once again for this incredible Plugin that you allow us to use freely.
    Thank you…!!
    Greetings!!
