I have different roles on my site with customized capabilities, for example, I disabled the ability to publish for Authors.
When an author creates a post and saves it as a draft, they get an error message saying “Updating failed. Sorry, you are not allowed to edit the jetpack_publicize_message custom field.”

Is there a way to disable Jetpack Social by role? Or at least if the user’s role doesn’t allow them to publish, they shouldn’t be able to edit anything in Jetpack Social.

    Hi there, @yaelduckwen,

You’re correct that there isn’t a built-in way in Jetpack to restrict Social access by role. The error you reported happens because a user role lacks the capability to edit that custom field, while Jetpack Social tries to update it.

Apart from correcting this via custom code, which falls beyond the scope of our support, another workaround you can consider would be to allowing the minimal capability needed for your users to save drafts without enabling full publish access.

    Hope that helps!
