The Classic Widgets plugin simply disables the Gutenberg extension features in the WordPress core. This allows the classic widgets included in the core to be used again. As far as I know, there are no plans to make any changes to these in Core Trac, where WordPress developers publicly discuss any changes.
However, your concern should be directed more towards the plugins that are not compatible with the classic widgets. They would need to add support for this on their end. It is best to contact their support team about this.
hi, thanks for your quick reply. But my question wasn’t answered fully : Will there be any new updates for this plugin soon? It hasn’t been updated for over a year. The owners from plugins that are incompatible have already been contacted.
I guess that in connection with the major WordPress release 6.9 (on next tuesday), the compatibility flag on the plugin will also be raised again. But as I said, this is just a guess. You are welcome to submit your request here as a ticket so that developers are made aware of it: https://github.com/WordPress/classic-widgets/issues
the compatibility flag on the plugin will also be raised again
Right, thanks for replaying here!
Just bumped the “Tested up to” setting for WordPress 6.9. The plugin seems to be working as expected.
