Im using Gutenberg 1.0.2 at the moment as ive had to do a rollback as an attempt to fix this. Whenever I try to add a table of contents block to a page, the block says something like “This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed.”. So, I tried updating gutenberg plug in to the latest version, 4.2.1. When i do this update, the plugin then seems to disapear and just delete itself. I then go back to the post with the table of contents and instead of the original error, it now says this “Your site doesn’t include support for the “productblocks/block-tableofcontents” block. You can leave it as-is, convert it to custom HTML, or remove it.” Anyone got any idea whats going on?

  • Hi @tomh2004,

Do not confuse Gutenberg (the codename of everything new in WP since 2017) with the Gutenberg plugin.
You don’t need to install the Gutenberg plugin in order to use the table of content block : each release of WP natively includes a release of Gutenberg : see https://developer.wordpress.org/block-editor/contributors/versions-in-wordpress/
The Gutenberg plugin is provided to test experimental features of WP, that may become part of a future release of WP. It is intended for “early adopters”.

So, just deactivate and uninstall the plugin….
