I have deleted a table (#7) and created a new one. The new table got ID 8. There is no table #7 in the list now. Currently the list of tables uses these IDs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8

Therefore it is impossible to add the shortcode [table id=8 /] into a page. In WP-editor I keep getting the WP-message (German) “Fehler beim Laden des Blocks: object Object” (translates to something like “error loading block: object Object”). It is impossible to publish a page with this shortcode.

(All other tables and their shortcodes work just fine.)

How can I fix the table list?

    Hi @ulibaehr,

Thanks for your post and sorry for the trouble!

It’s no problem that there is no table with the ID 7 here, the list does not have to be complete. In fact, this is very common, if tables are deleted. (TablePress does not re-use table IDs, because this could lead to tables being shown in places where they should not be shown, e.g. if an “old” Shortcode is still in a page somewhere.)

Therefore, the issue that you are seeing must have a different cause. Somehow, an error message is being generated when the table content is rendered. Can you please check if you are also getting an error when trying to use the “Preview” feature on the “List of tables” or on the “Edit” screen of the table? And is the “Edit” screen for this table working fine?

Depending on what you find, please get in touch via the yellow “Send us an email” button in the lower part of https://tablepress.org/pricing/ with any details. Thanks!

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

    Problem is solved.

Whenever you get the message „Fehler beim Laden des Blocks: [object Object]” (in english something like “Error loading blocks: [object Object]”
then you should check your imported table. You might still have an Excel function in one of your columns. In that case:

    • delete all columns of your TablePress table
    • copy all columns of your original Excel table
    • re-insert all columns – but values only (no functions!)
    • re-import your Excel table into your TablePress table

And it is perfectly ok when the table IDs are not a completely consecutive list: Whenever you delete a table its ID is wasted and will not be used again.

    Hi,

Thanks for sharing your solution, I really appreciate it! Yes, for long and complex (and maybe even repeating) formulas, using a version of the file with just the values can be better 🙂

And one remark about the table IDs: The IDs are not directly “wasted”, you could also manually re-use them, by changing a table ID. It’s just that TablePress own its own won’t reuse an old ID, to prevent issues with tables maybe showing in wrong places.

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

P.S.: In case you haven’t, please rate TablePress in the plugin directory. Thanks!
