I have been using Wordfence for almost 4 years but after the latest update (version 7.1.3) that doubled the time penalty of WF on page loading time, I decided to switch to BPS or BPS Pro. I installed BPS on one of my sites, run setup wizard. And then I realized that I have no idea what to do next and what’s protected and what’s not… I am an “old school” IT guy and not in favor of fancy and flashy interfaces… but there seems to be a bit of problem with terminology and explanations used in the BPS interface. Ok, fine, there should be some 2-3 min video tutorial on how to do the standard setup, right? Well, I couldn’t find any such tutorial out there. I obviously don’t want to spend hours going through multiple text and video tutorials out there… can somebody point me in the right direction? In many other plugins (e.g. W3TC, Wordfence) there is a standard configuration that you can export, import, and share. That would help (if somebody is willing to share) but I didn’t see anything like this in BPS… I heard good things about BPS from people I trust, but my hacking days are over and I just don’t have time now to dig through config options 🙁

@aitpro, Does BPS Pro have simple (and short!) config tutorial (text or video)? I don’t mind paying for software but I have little time and I don’t want to spend it on learning internals of BPS.

And, assuming that I am not the only person concerned about Wordfence becoming a huge performance hog, it would clearly be beneficial to have a tutorial on migration from WF to BPS.

Since the BPS Setup Wizard and Setup Wizard AutoFix features were created you no longer have to do any manual config/setting stuff unless you want to change the optimum default settings that are automatically setup by the Setup Wizard. Setup Wizard AutoFix automatically creates over 100+ fixes for common known issues with other plugins and themes. Both BPS and BPS Pro also have built-in automation that fixes/changes/sets up/adjusts settings if and when things change. These features are built on WordPress Crons that check things in time intervals and make any necessary changes on each Cron Job run. Both BPS and BPS Pro plugin updates automatically add/change/update any new changes/features/option settings in each version.

So if you want to change the optimum default settings or add Bonus Custom Code then those things would be additional after the fact things to do, otherwise once you run the Setup Wizard there is nothing left to do. 😉

There is an older video tutorial on the front page of the BPS plugin page here (scroll down to the YouTube video) > https://wordpress.org/plugins/bulletproof-security/. The video tutorial is pending update, but shows you the general important things to be aware of in BPS. For BPS Pro, the BPS Pro forum site has years of documented fixes/Bonus Custom Code/etc. stuff >>> https://forum.ait-pro.com/activity/ and video tutorials >>> https://forum.ait-pro.com/video-tutorials/ (note: the BPS Pro video tutorials are also pending updates, but they show the important general basics).

So in summary, the general idea is you run the Setup Wizard and everything is setup for you and then if you want to change the default optimum settings you can go through the BPS plugin pages and change any default settings that you want to change. If you want to add Bonus Custom Code for additional security protection then you can add any Bonus Custom Code that you would like to add.

Migration from Wordfence to BPS would simply be: delete/uninstall Wordfence, install BPS and run the BPS Setup Wizard.

Thanks, I’ll review the videos and try the plugin on production site.
