I unfortunately missed the tip to deactivate the plugin before migrating to a different server. Now my 2FA is corrupted and doesn’t seem to work. I’ve tried uninstalling the plugin and re-installing but it seems to have the same 2FA settings / key as before.

What’s the best way to fully reset this plugin to set it up again for a new server environment?

    Thanks!

I followed the steps listed here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/not-working-after-site-migration/

One thing I’m running into is in the users list in the dashboard, lots of users are still showing as 2FA Status: Configured.

I tried to bulk revoke 2FA, but it doesn’t seem to change the 2FA Status field in the user account display at /wp-admin/users.php

    Hello @davedecc

First of all, sorry for the late response. For some reason this one slipped through the cracks.

Thank you for reaching out, and no need to worry — this is a fairly common outcome when a site is migrated with the plugin still active, and it is entirely recoverable.

You are on the right track with the steps from the other thread. To do a complete reset, first take a backup of the database. Then, delete all rows in the wp_options table which begin with wp_2fa, and all rows in the wp_usermeta table whose meta key begins with wp_2fa.

Note: the entries in the wp_usermeta are the ones that clear the per-user configuration and enrolment state. However, this is checked upon a user login, to the entries might still show the old value for a while, until all users have logged back in at least once after you delete the database entries.

By the way, for future reference, we alslo have a migration guide in our KB: https://melapress.com/support/kb/wp-2fa-migrating-plugin-2fa-setup/

    I hope the above helps.
