Hope you are doing fine!
I just performed a quick test on our lab site. I installed Defender, following the “Start from Scratch” and also the wizard in a fresh WordPress site and could find the Default Defender Config under Defender > Settings > Configs. Please see the attached screenshot.

Could you verify if you can find it in the mentioned section of the settings?

yes, everything you said checks out, but the issue is that the basic config has been missing for us on multiple sites (different environments etc.).

At first we thought it’s your decisions to remove it, but after your comment it seems like a bug. We’ve used this basic config for quiet some time before it disappeared on us. 🙂

Could you please share the site information for one of the sites where you notice the issue so that we could have a better idea regarding the server?
You can find the info under Tools > Site Health > Info > Site Health Info and by clicking the “Copy Site Info to Clipboard”.
Please do let us know how that goes.
