• I’m troubleshooting a Consent Mode issue on a WordPress website:

    Site Kit and GA4 are connected correctly and Analytics works, but when Site Kit Consent Mode is enabled, Analytics consent does not appear to be applied correctly after the visitor accepts cookies.

    Using a fresh Incognito session and Google Tag Assistant:

    Before consent I correctly see:

    analytics_storage = denied

    After clicking Accept All in CookieYes, CookieYes correctly records Analytics consent.

    I have confirmed:

    cookieyes-consent contains analytics:yes

    and:

    wp_consent_statistics = allow

    However, Site Kit/Google does not then reliably show:

    analytics_storage = granted

    In our tests, no new Consent Update appeared after accepting cookies, and GA4 did not record normal page_view events after consent.

    I also tested caching as a possible cause:

    • purged SiteGround cache
    • temporarily disabled Dynamic Caching
    • tested in completely fresh Incognito sessions

    The problem remained.

    If Site Kit Consent Mode is not managing the consent flow, GA4 itself and the Site Kit Analytics connection appear to function normally.

    Could you please advise whether this is a known issue with:

    CookieYes → WP Consent API → Site Kit Consent Mode

    and whether Site Kit should automatically read and restore:

    wp_consent_statistics = allow

    on each page load?

    I’m specifically trying to establish why the visitor has explicitly granted Analytics consent but analytics_storage is not being updated/restored accordingly.

    Many thanks,

    Mark

    Thanks for reaching out @thenazman. I performed some checks on your site, both manually and via the tagassistant.google.com service. From doing so, I can see the expected denied default consent state, at least from my location. When I then grant consent, the update didn’t apply, which is an indication as you described.

    When I check your CookieYes configuration, I don’t see any cookie related to Analytics. Based on this, I suspect not your Analytics implemention isn’t being detected by CookieYes. This may be based on a non-standard snippet, as I can see a defer attribute added to the snippet placed via Site Kit, which I suspect is inserted by another plugin.

    To troubleshoot this further, please share your Site Health information and I can review your setup further. In relation to any known issue, there is no known issue between CookieYes, the WP Consent API plugin and Site Kit. CookieYes is one of the plugins we work natively with for consent mode, so I do suspect it’s more a multi plugin configuration in this case. We’ll know more with a little further troubleshooting, which I can advise on when reviewing your Site Health information. This may involve temporarily deactivating any optimization type plugin, or reviewing your plugin configuration.

    Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Thank you.
