The hosting company I am using (IONOS) has started flagging the .gz compressed database file as a ‘malicious file’. I’ve told them it is a compressed file and they haven’t said exactly what the problem is and all scans I have done on it are negative but they continue to flag it.

Is there a way to see if it is actually compromised or alternatively, is there a way to change the compressed file to a .zip like the other files?

    Thanks for your time.

    Hi,

UpdraftPlus uses .gz format by default for database backups, it’s simply a compressed SQL file and completely normal. Some hosts like IONOS occasionally flag these files incorrectly because of their automated scanners.

You can confirm the file is safe by downloading it and opening it with any decompression tool (like 7-Zip or WinRAR). You’ll see it contains a plain .sql file inside. If you’ve already scanned it and it came back clean, then this is just a false positive from your host’s malware scanner.

    Best regards,
    Bryle

I kind of thought so and have told them this, but it keeps happening so I’ll have to press harder.

    Thanks for the reply!
