    Hi Jeff,
    I started with <meta name=”description” content=”[hmd_post_excerpt]”> but I found something crazy:

    Excerpt is Nach dem Angriff auf Charlie Hebdo waren die sozialen Medien innert Stunden «schwarz»: Alle Welt war «Charlie». Und nachdem ich hörte, was im Supermarkt Hyper Cacher passiert war, ergänzte ich: «Je suis juif».

    Result is Nach dem Angriff auf Charlie Hebdo waren die sozialen Medien innert Stunden «schwarz»: Alle Welt war «Charlie». Und nachdem ich hörte, was im Supermarkt Hy

    Excerpt is: Mit freundlicher Genehmigung von “Sad And Useless”, Übersetzung LSBK.

    Result was Mit freundlicher Genehmigung von

    Glad to help.

    Can you walk me through the basic steps to repeat the issue?

    For example something like:

    1. Install WordPress
    2. Install/activate Head Meta Data (free version)
    3. Visit such and such page
    4. Enter some shortcode
    5. Give the shortcode some value
    6. Etc., until the issue may be observed

    That will enable me to follow along, see what’s happening, and try to help asap.

    Hi Jeff

    To install from scratch is to much work, sorry

    I have installed:
    WordPress 6.8.1 | PHP 8.4.8 | Web Server Apache | MySQL 10.6.22-MariaDB-log
    GeneratePress Version: 3.6.0
    Head Meta Data Jeff Starr wordpress.org Yes 20250327 Enabled 3 Monaten 6.8.1 96%

    What I did: created a list of all posts [display-posts include_excerpt=”true” posts_per_page=”999″ orderby=”title” order=”ASC”] and saved to a Word doc.

    Set HMD as in your instruction …meta name=”description” content=”[hmd_post_excerpt]”…
    (VS Meta Description disabled) check some results with https://rankmath.com/tools/meta-tag-analyzer/

    Remove line with Description and reactivate VS Meta Description, check same excerpts/descriptions.

    The comparison file: https://lsbk.ch/wp-content/uploads/Excerpts.docx no private data so far.

    I guess your program has some problems with quotes, double quotes and some Umlauts as the whole page is on German language.

    Yeah basically I just need the simplest test case possible. So I can follow along, repeat the issue, and investigate asap. So far, I am confused as to what/how to repeat the reported issue.

    Also, if copy/pasting to Microsoft Word document is necessary to repeat the issue, there is no way for me to test it. I do not use any Microsoft products, just fyi.

    PS Thank you for the review, it is very much appreciated, and helps the plugin to succeed.

    Hi Jeff

    I found the reason:

    <meta name="description" content="[hmd_post_excerpt]">

    I set up the “post excerpts” manually. When there are string delimiters which are not typographic, like ASCCII(34), the copy from post Excerpt to the meta description stops.

    My solution is to prevent strings or use them carefully.

    So, for me, it’s solved.

    Hey @lsbk, I am looking into this for the WP 6.9 update. Can you let me know some examples of ASCII characters that cause the excerpt text to truncate or cut off? I’ve tried a few like single and double quotes, but they are getting encoded correctly and not causing any truncated excerpt text.
