It seems adding the featured image was fairly straightforward so we have done so and pushed version 1.1.5. Preliminary testing has been done but we would appreciate you testing to make certain it works in your environment before we release it to the entire install base. You may download the updated version from wordpress.org.
In order to leverage the new behavior, you will need to form your shortcode like so:
[rps-include post="#" featured_image="true"]
