• For the past few days, every time I click Edit with Elementor on my homepage, the entire website crashes and becomes inaccessible (ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT), usually for around an hour before recovering on its own.

I’ve had PHP worker exhaustion issues before, but Elementor rarely caused a complete outage. Now it happens every single time I try to edit the homepage. I haven’t tested editing other pages.

The hosting logs show that all available PHP workers become occupied (0 idle, 5 total children). My hosting has a limit of 6 workers.

Elementor gets stuck loading, sometimes offering Safe Mode, which doesn’t load either. The homepage itself works normally when I’m not editing it.

I’m using Elementor Free 4.3.5, WordPress 7.1.3, WooCommerce 11.2.1, PHP 8.4 and the Miini theme. I’ve also increased WordPress’s admin memory limit to 384 MB, without resolving the issue.

Does anyone know what could cause Elementor to suddenly exhaust server resources just by opening the homepage editor?

Disabling Atomic did not help. Might need to roll back probably, but that means the current version has some sort of issues.

    Hi there,

Thanks for contacting us and hope you are doing well and having a great day.

To rule out the possibility of a plugin or theme conflict, please deactivate all your plugins not just elementor addons (besides Elementor). If it solves the issue reactivate them one by one to find the culprit. If it didn’t help, switch your theme (temporarily) to a default WP theme such as Twenty Nineteen and see if it makes any difference.

Also, this could happen due to our Elementor performance experiments you can try to deactivate them. To deactivate them you can go to Elementor > settings > features

Performance features currently in the experimental stage are:

Element Caching – Elements caching reduces loading times by serving up a copy of an element instead of rendering it fresh every time the page is loaded. When active, Elementor will determine which elements can benefit from static loading – but you can override this.

I am looking forward to hearing back from you soon.

    Kind regards

This sounds more like PHP worker exhaustion caused by a slow or stuck request than a memory-limit issue. Check PHP-FPM slow logs and identify which requests are consuming all five workers when Elementor loads. Also investigate recent Elementor/plugin updates and WooCommerce or Elementor add-on conflicts on a staging site. Increasing PHP workers may reduce outages temporarily, but finding the request causing the bottleneck is key.

Bit more difficult than it sounds, to me anyway. I’ve tried. Elemento has never acted like that before, it used to sometimes crash the same way when wanting to Edit with Elementor, but not every single time like it does now.

Ask your host to turn on the PHP-FPM slow log (request_slowlog_timeout = 10s) and then open the editor once. The stack trace will name the plugin or loop that hangs. Also set a hard max_execution_time of about 60s, so one stuck request can’t hold a worker for an hour.

    Hi @heggyy
Does the issue happen only on the homepage or on all the pages of your site?
Is it possible to replicate the same on a new page and seeing if that is causing the same issue?

We will try to isolated it from there.
