I have developed a staging website on WP Staging and it is ready for launch. The person who is hosting the domain is unable to be reached so we are going to switch them to Web Host Canada. We have access to WordPress, but not the hosting site. The organization’s IT company said they can help me point the DNS to the appropriate IP Address after switching to a new host company.

How is it best to launch the site? I was going to purchase the business account, but want to figure out the best approach first. Should I push the changes to live first then switch the hosting site? Or should I create a back-up first, then upload the back-up to the new host site, then push changes?

This is my first web host switch and the first time pushing a staging site to live, so I just want to ensure I am doing it properly. Will the staging site be transferred over if I switch hosts or should I back-up everything first, then switch.

Any support/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Kody.

    Hi @kdw999 ,

Thanks for your question and for using WP STAGING! To ensure a smooth hosting switch and launch, here’s what we recommend:

    1. Create separate backups of both your staging and production sites.
    2. Download both backups to local storage for safety.
    3. If you only need the staging site live on the new host, just restore its backup there, that’ll be the fastest route. Create a new staging if required.
    4. If you want to migrate both live and staging sites, push the staging site to the production site and create a backup to migrate to a new host. But, as you don’t have access, I won’t recommend doing this.
    5. Alternatively, restore the production backup on the new host. Create a new staging site and restore your staging backup to it.

Important: Backups of your production site do not include staging sites. You must create and download staging backups separately.

You can follow this detailed guide: How to Migrate Your Site to a New Host.

    Thanks for the information Fayyaz!

We are having trouble logging into our account when we click on “my account”. We would like to go forward and purchase the pro version so we can back-up and push the changes to our live host. Do we need to create an account first, or purchase and then make an account? I just want to ensure it is linked to our wordpress or know how to access it afterwards.

    Thanks,

    Kody
