This only seems to work when looking at the front end of the website. Is that the case?

Plugins seem still to be active when in the admin. I was hoping to use this to test a plugins interaction when editing a custom post type post in the admin editor.

    Hi @zerogravity,
Hello, thanks for reaching out with your question.

Yes, the Troubleshooting Mode is absolutely designed to work across the entire site, including the WordPress admin area. You should be able to simulate deactivating plugins when editing posts or any other admin screen.
When plugins still appear active in the admin, the most common reason is browser caching. Your browser stores copies of files to speed up loading times, so it might still be loading the files from the other plugin even if it’s “deactivated” for your session.

The solution is usually a quick hard refresh, which forces your browser to download all the latest files from the server.

Please try performing a hard refresh on the post editor screen after you’ve applied your troubleshooting settings. In most cases, this will resolve the issue.

If the problem continues after a hard refresh, could you let me know which specific plugin you’re trying to deactivate? That will help me investigate further.

    I hope this helps!
