Do NOT make this core
-
I’m planning to run a service using wordpress multisite and I’ve been cringing for months about gutenburg. Can you imagine the amount of support questions we are going to get if current users are forced to used gutenburg?
I will try and explain more specifically why gutenburg is going to alienate me and thousands of other users:
1. Most novice computers and especially the older generation is used to Microsoft word and the current editor more accurately reflects this. So users can relate and use it easily. Gutenburg is nothing like this and is going to confuse thousands.
2. Everything is hidden, unclear and extremely hard to use, even for experienced computer users. It takes a lot of guess work to use, but no-one is used to using a text editor like this and why should they be forced to?
3. Even after all this effort it doesn’t match up with other professional page builders like siteorigin’s page builder, elementor, divi and others.
Finally for the many, many more reasons left by other reviewers it just seems unreasonable to force wordpress users to use Gutenburg. It seems like it’s not an improvement, simply another page builder plugin. If this is the case, it should be just made an optional plugin as making it core will cause a lot more work and stress for website developers, training and wasted time. At the time of writing, Gutenburg has a review score of 2.7 / 5, does it really sound like something you should force on users? or rather offer as an optional choice?
