• Hi here’s an issue I’d like your opinion on. I had a blog of 9 years standing running happily on 6.8.1 and a few days ago links to view and log in suddenly produced a WordPress installation page. Investigation revealed that the database had been deleted and replaced by a new blank one. The only changes to the blog had been the occasional post upload of jpg images and text. This is the response from my hosting provider,

“Upon our investigation, we found that the recent changes made on the website triggered an issue with the database”

Is this at all possible or are they trying to avoid responsibility. My second blog, identical except for content is still on line and functioning perfectly. I’d be very grateful for your comments, Duncan.

  • Hi Duncan.
Uploading posts or images via the WordPress dashboard does not interact with the database in a way that would delete or replace it.
Web Hosts sometimes run automated maintenance and migrations. If those are misconfigured, it could lead to deletion or replacement of database.

Your host may be avoiding full responsibility by using vague technical language. The response you received sounds like an effort to deflect blame without a clear technical explanation.

Thanks Jaydeep, you have confirmed my suspicion, as of now they have lost a customer. Duncan.
