• Greetings,

I have used block editor on a few websites and am familiar with some of the intricoes of Gutenberg. Anyhow, my problem is simple:

    • I open a page to edit / create and the page loads the template and I can only edit the template.
    • When I turn the plugin off, I can edit the page.
    • This happened over the past 2 or 3 weeks and I suspect it may be after an update but it could be a known issue.

This obviously isn’t sustainable as other need to edit while I make a design tweak or change. I looked around the documentation but I’m not finding anything that mentions it.

Currently, I disable Gutenberg (and it’s blocks) to edit page content and turn it back on when I’m finished. I’m not sure my users’ experience but I don’t want them running into trouble. I can, of course, edit the template still via Appearance >> Editor.

Thanks for input from someone who has experienced this.

  • Hi @gpotter,

I just experienced that same issue: I’m not able to edit the page or post content with Gutenberg plugin v20.10.1 enabled. I didn’t find any other workaround yet.

I didn’t touch that site for a while, it’s still a work in progress. I only kept wordpress and my plugins up to date, so I can’t tell which update (possibly) might be responsible for this.

Edit: forgot to mention that immediately after opening a page for edit I can see the outline of the page on the left side for a fraction of a second, which then is replaced by the templates outline.
