Update – right now i have disabled google recaptcha keys integration.
What other plugins and theme do you use on the site?
Hi @takayukister
I am mentioning below plugin and themes listing that i am using
Theme – custom theme integration
plugin list –
301 Redirects , Advanced Custom Fields PRO, Advanced Custom Fields: Repeater Collapser, Classic Editor, Contact Form 7, Contact Form Entries, Duplicate Page and Post, Honeypot for Contact Form 7, HubSpot All-In-One Marketing – Forms, Popups, Live Chat, Sassy Social Share, Spam Protect for Contact Form 7, SVG Support, UpdraftPlus – Backup/Restore, WCK – Custom Fields and Custom Post Types Creator, Wordfence Security, WP Fastest Cache, WP Fastest Cache Premium, WP Mail SMTP, WPCode Lite
Try switching to the default theme, deactivating all plugins excluding Contact Form 7, Classic Editor, Wordfence Security and WP Mail SMTP, and clearing all cache data.
Why you are advised to deactivate plugins and switch to the default theme.
I was also just advised that my form wasn’t submitting. Seems like this is a common issue that is a few years old. We users are wanting to use recaptcha but the way you have it integrating it ends up conflicting with something and then we can’t use it & have to deal with spam.
I had to deactivate it on my WP site today & now the form works fine. What’s weird is that I have it on two sites and they are almost identical in setup but works on 1 and not the other.
CF7 I really think you need to address this & up the compatibility so users can have this integration to avoid spam.
Hi @takayukister
I followed up on your response by changing the default theme, deactivating all plugins except Contact Form 7, Classic Editor, Wordfence Security, and WP Mail SMTP, and clearing all cache. Despite these changes, there is still an error when submitting the contact form, specifically when activating Google Recaptcha. After deactivating Google Recaptcha, the contact form works fine and emails are received as expected.
This suggests a conflict between Contact Form 7 and Google Recaptcha. I also changed the Google Recaptcha keys to ensure they weren’t the issue, but the problem persists. Could you please check this issue, update the plugin files, and release a new update for the plugin?
Hi @takayukister
is there anything we can do on this issue?
Hi @takayukister
Could you please help us on this issue.
I’m having the same problem. I’m using Version 6.0. I’d be willing to try lowering the threshold or disabling reCAPTCHA but I don’t know how to do either.
To disable would you remove the keys found in the Integration with External API section?
As to lowering the threshold I looked here https://contactform7.com/en/faq-about-recaptcha-v3/#how-to-change-threshold but I don’t know where to put that code.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
I resolved the issue by lowering the threshold. I found out that code found here: https://contactform7.com/en/faq-about-recaptcha-v3/#how-to-change-threshold gets added to functions.php.
I changed the threshold to .09. I had to go that low because the test messages I tried were still being labelled as spam at higher thresholds. I made these changes under the watchful eye of someone who knows more about PHP than I do. My messages are going through and so far there is no spam coming through despite the low threshold.
I’ve been using this plugin for years and sent hundreds of test messages without trouble. I really appreciate the plugin and hope this problem will not arise again. Best wishes.
same problem here..
no way to pass this:
There was an error trying to send your message. Please try again later.
even lowering the threshold, nothing helped so far. The only thing that helps is to turn the recaptcha off.
BTW the gogole console shows no requests.. thus I feel like the plugin is not talking to Google and the request it does is refused, which bubbles up to the form result as refusal too.
WP 6.8.1, CF7 6.0.6

Has anyone managed to solve this problem that has existed for years now?
Same problem here, and I’ve also concluded that it’s caused by Google reCAPTCHA in combination with Contact Form 7. @takayukister is there a patch in working progress?
Contact Form 7’s official article states that they will no longer actively recommend supporting Google reCAPTCHA.

For this reason, I believe that using Cloudflare Turnstile is a more realistic option at this time.
This is purely my personal opinion, but I feel that Turnstile is more stable and user-friendly than spending time and effort resolving reCAPTCHA issues.
