• Hi there,

Now and then we are experiencing that some products are sold even though we are 99.9 % sure that the stock of the product was 0 before the sale. And backorders are not allowed. If we check the stock log of the product, we cannot figure out what is wrong. Is it possible to see what kind of action that has led to the stock change?

Furthermore, the stock log is missing some changes, which we can see in the order notes. How can that happen?

Do you have any ideas on how to debug this further?

    Best Regards,
    Peter

Now and then we are experiencing that some products are sold even though we are 99.9 % sure that the stock of the product was 0 before the sale. And backorders are not allowed.

The Stock Manager for WooCommerce plugin is designed to manage WooCommerce Products inventory data from a single dashboard, without interfering with WooCommerce’s checkout or order processes.

If products are being sold despite having zero stock, this could be related to other third-party plugins or custom code. As this seems specific to your site, here’s something that will help:

    • Install a free theme like Twenty Twenty or Storefront but do not activate/switch your current theme
    • Install the free plugin Health Check & Troubleshooting
on your site – this plugin is developed by the WordPress.org team and is pretty good at diagnosing problems in such situations.
    • Once the health check plugin is installed, keep only WooCommerce and Stock Manager for WooCommerce plugins active for the admin side and try to reproduce the issue you reported. Make sure to do this only for the admin side – that way visitors to your site won’t be affected.
    • Here’s a nice article that explains this process.
    • If the issue does not occur, it means the problem is with some other plugin. You may try activating/deactivating a combination of plugins to figure out exactly what causes the problem.

Do try the above steps and let us know your views.

If we check the stock log of the product, we cannot figure out what is wrong. Is it possible to see what kind of action that has led to the stock change?

Currently, the feature to view the action or the reason involved with the WooCommerce Product stock quantity changes is not available in the Stock Manager for WooCommerce plugin.

Alternatively, you can have a check with our best store management plugin – Smart Manager, which has all the features of Stock Manager for WooCommerce plugin and offers a Product Stock Log dashboard that tracks majority of product changes from the admin screen, third-party plugins, and REST API. Using this, you can view the type of change and other data like author, previous value, and updated value. Click here to check its functionality.

Furthermore, the stock log is missing some changes, which we can see in the order notes. How can that happen? Do you have any ideas on how to debug this further?

As mentioned above, the Stock Manager for WooCommerce plugin does not interfere with WooCommerce’s checkout or order processes. It tracks and displays the stock log for changes that are made from its Dashboard or from the WooCommerce default Product edit page or the Products admin list view.

Could you please explain a bit more about what kind of changes you are referring to by “some changes” with the help of some screenshots? This will help us check and guide you accordingly.

    Hi @storeappsorg,

I think there is something (from the admin screen, third-party plugins, or REST API) that is changing the stock number unexpected. Therefore, I will track the changes more detailed, and I have installed the Stock Manager.

However, there is no Product Stock Log elements?

Just to clarify, are you referring to installing the Smart Manager plugin and accessing its Product Stock Log dashboard?

As per our previous reply, the Product Stock Log dashboard is available in Smart Manager, not in the Stock Manager for WooCommerce plugin. We recommend installing Smart Manager and checking out this documentation for more details on how to access Product Stock Log dashboard.

Also, please note that Smart Manager will only show stock log entries tracked after Smart Manager is installed and inventory changes are made from the Smart Manager dashboard. And the Smart Manager’s Pro version tracks product changes from the WordPress admin screen, third-party plugins, and the REST API.
