I work with WordPress 6.8 and the Twenty Twenty-Five theme. I made also a child-theme, in order to be able to keep safe the Templates and Template Parts that I made in case of the theme was reset by the theme-makers.
Several operations would be quicker, If I could modify existing templates. Nevertheless I would like to keep the originals. The obvious solution would be to duplicate them and modify the copy. Up to now I didn’t find any answer to the question: “How can I duplicate a template”? Is that possible?

    Thank you.

With block themes such as TwentyTwentyFive, you don’t need to explicitly save the original templates. They remain in the template as template files. A customized template is stored in the database and is therefore always available, even during updates, without the need for a child theme.

If you really want to save the originals one more time, find the templates in the parent template. They can be found there in the templates directory as HTML files.

Thank you. I’m not sure that I have understood everything.

When you say that the original templates remain in the template [database?] as template files, do you mean that they are not longer visualized when one clicks on “templates” in the site editor, but they are still kept as files in the template directory – and one can still use them or recover them. But how?
