Can’t change administration email address

Greetings! I’m taking over the website management from a employee who was let go. It looks like she actually had her husband do the work and his email is listed as our site administrator email. I’ve tried to change it, but of course the confirmation email is going to him. Since we parted badly with his wife, I’m guessing he has no intention of responding to those confirmation emails. Is there anyway around this? I would be so grateful for any advice!
