In discussion with a client, we have a couple options or features we’d like to see. I’m not sure if these are available and I’m missing the setting, or if they could be slated for future updates. Making two separate posts for easier tracking and commentary.

For our next request, we are looking for a way to bulk disable without turning it off completely.

We have a site with over 34,000 blog posts (site’s been up since 2006). We added this plugin last year and would have liked to disable related posts being displayed on all posts with the option to manually enable the feature per-post (either going back and editing posts or as new ones are added).

From what I see and have tested in the settings, if I disable “automatically add to Posts” on the General tab then enable Related Posts in the Post Editor page, the related posts still won’t show on the front end unless I add the PHP snippet or the shortcode.

What we would like to see is a way to check or uncheck “disable related posts display” in the bulk editing panel. I see “exclude from related posts” and “manual related posts” are already available in the WordPress Bulk Edit screen.

Alternatively or in addition, we would like a setting to “disable related posts display for new posts” so that when new posts are added, we can decide to turn the feature ON instead of having to turn it off – a sort of opt-in function without requiring the use of a shortcode or modifying theme files.

Again, if there’s a way to achieve this and I’m just missing it, please let me know.

The “Automatically add” feature is designed for most users who want to turn it on or off. The idea is that if you turn it off, then you’re comfortable using the shortcode, block or PHP to add the related posts where you want them.

I also don’t fully understand the logic of it being opt-in, as that’s where the shortcode/block (or PHP) come into the picture, i.e. you use them manually on the posts you want to display the related posts.

Separately, in full transparency, I’m only adding new features to the plugin’s pro version.

Thanks for the reply Ajay. I will look into the options and see what will be best for my client’s current workflow.

Turns out using the shortcode may work ok…. It changes the client’s current posting workflow yet this might be manageable. And with such a large site already, it will necessitate some additional work to revisit posts and add the shortcodes individually after I turn off “automatically add” in the general settings….
