Hello @tallmale
Yes. You can also install these 50+ plugin new themes. But there are some pro plugins, they work on only one site at a time. If your old eCommerce website is not active so maybe all these plugins will not have any effect on your new theme.
Still, if any issue comes due to a plugin in your new website, then you can create a ticket by going to the support of that plugin. They will give you his solution.
Thanks.
This is something you’re going to need to ask the theme author.
Plugin developers cannot test with every theme, but if the plugin is coded well and according to best practices then there is a very low chance that the plugin won’t work. However, if the plugin produces output on the front end, there is a chance that it will not fit in perfectly with the theme’s design. However there’s no real way to know that without trying.
For the broader question:
Does all WordPress Themes work with ALL plugins?
The answer is, unfortunately, “It Depends”. The vast majority of plugins are designed to work with all themes, but there are a few of instances where they might not:
- Some plugins are specifically made to be for a specific theme only. If this is the case then this should be clear from the plugin description. B ut if you’re unsure, ask the author.
- Some plugins may have coding issues that create a conflict with the theme. If the theme and plugin are both well made and from reliable developers then this shouldn’t be a problem, but there are poorly made plugins out there. Read reviews to know which is which.
- Sometimes when a plugin displays something on the front end it may look bad because it does not fit in with the theme’s design, or because of display bugs caused by a conflict. This is the most likely problem you’ll run into because many developers are bad at CSS. If this happens you can ask the plugin author for assistance, but if you can learn CSS that will be a very useful skill.
Thank you Aezaz,
I want to keep the existing (original) website running while I design the new one. I want to create all the pages and then use the same admin and plugins of the original website so the website will look like a new website but have all the same functionality and information from the original one.
So I will not be able to test the 50 + plugins with the new theme.
Many thanks.
Thanks Jacob,
For your detailed and informative reply.
I have reached out to the author/developer but still have not heard back yet. Because I am doing a makeover of the website using a completely new theme I need to be sure that any theme I buy will be compatible with the many plugins this ECommerce website uses.
Thanks again for all your help.
In your situation I would strongly recommend setting up a staging site where you can test it. This might be something your host can help with.
That sounds like a great idea Jacob.
Thanks again for all your help with this.
