Agreed, @hebhansen. Core will eventually include what is being called “Bits,” which is the inline version of blocks. Check out the proposal. But there will always be a demand for specialized blocks like this, which saves even more dev time.

Get FSE sorted and perfected first. Shortcodes in editor and backend are truly ugly. Just design blocks. Something needed for front, make it blocks. Also make FSE editor the new WordPress Dashboard and build from there. It looks nice where present dashboard looks 90ies, sorry to say.

Finally wordpress needs a codex to abide to for 3rd party developers. All plugins menu item MUST tap into 5-10 given ones such as setting, site management, frotend etc. WordPress today is drowning in monster menus and it’s un-cool. Also either icon or no icon. The inconsistency backend is utterly messy. What if plugins will not abide? They are not released under the WordPress flag, not negotiable. Keep it clean! Adds and banners, prohibited, reminders prohibited. Notification of updates as on FB. A bell with red circle and a number indicationg there are notifications.

Point is clean up the mess consistently. Be less American regarding adds all over the place. It’s a work station.
