A Few First Thoughts
-
Congrats on release. Overall a pretty solid foundation.
A few things I’ve noticed off the bat (which is why I’ll be sticking with Woocomerce as an alternative a little longer):
- I use the divi theme builder and there is no way on the product pages to remove the default divi sidebar. For some reason, the comment block also shows allowing users to leave comments on the products. (I’ve made a bug report about this and included a website url as a demo). It also shows the author randomly at the top of the page.
- You cannot discount a product directly without creating a coupon code or using the “cross out” feature to show a crossed out price but that seems tedious if you want todo 20% off site wide sale without using a coupon code. It’s also not very good for reporting as I’d love to see income before discounts etc.
- Order bumps seem a bit like an after thought, they only appear on the checkout page (see below suggestion on how to fix).
- Developer docs didn’t launch with release… it would have been useful as I’d love to port over my “sign up to our newsletter for 20% off” feature which then generates a coupon code.
- If you want to style anything you must use css (at least if your using divi that is). There’s not even an option to change the primary button colour.
A few things I’d love to see:
- The ability to enable order bumps under the qty on the order page itself similar to https://uk.store.bambulab.com/products/p2s?from=home_banner where it shows additional options under the qty. It would make order bumps so much more valuable. (Or at least give me a divi block I can use on the product page please)
- The ability to have order bumps show on the mini cart.
- Payment methods on the mini cart would also be awesome for faster checkout.
- A way to add your own payment methods for example Klarna, clear pay etc.
- A public suggestion list where users can vote on what they would like to see I believe currently it is only internal based on my live chat conversation.
Whilst a very strong foundation the development team have focussed on implementing FluentCart with their own eco system and that is made clear throughout. It would have been nice if other developers was given access earlier, for example AutomatorWP, Uncanny automation etc so they could have support off the bat for FluentCart, this would have helped me fill in a lot of gaps like my subscribe to our newsletter for 20% off feature.
I’ll be sticking with woo a little longer until things are ironed out. I know woo has been around forever and has a lot of extensions so it’s like comparing apples to oranges. However some core features are missing like product discounts. It is 100% a step in the right direction though as paying yearly for additional woo extensions is crazy.
