8.2.0 update wiped my admin menu clean!

    I updated Admin and Site Enhancements (ASE) to 8.2.0 and it wiped clean the admin menu on the left side of my site. The list of all my options and plugins disappeared.

    Fortunately, I have the Better Admin Bar plugin, so I was able to go to my homepage and access the plugins page via it. There, I deactivated the ASE plugin.

    Using the Rollback plugin, I rolled ASE back to 8.1.4, reactivated it, and my admin menu returned to normal!

    So, what is the problem with 8.2.0?

    @nealumphred Thank you for reporting this and apologies for the trouble. There was a change between 8.1.4 and 8.2.0 in how admin menu FOUC (flash of unstyled content) was handled. The FOUC occurs in the “Show All / Show Less” toggler when Admin Menu Organizer module is enabled.

    Can you please go to “Tools >> Site Health >> Info” and copy your WP environment info in your next reply, so I have a better understanding of in which context the issue occurs. Thank you.

    @nealumphred thank you. I’ve looked at the environment info and didn’t find anything that might provide some clue. I do notice you have many plugins. If you open your browser console, do you see any JS error when viewing the WP dashboard at https://www.site.com/wp-admin/?

    I deactivated the Privacy Badger extension on Firefox and most of the above errors were resolved.

    Browser Console now shows only this:

    • MouseEvent.mozInputSource is deprecated. Use PointerEvent.pointerType instead. pointerExtend.ts:14:48

    • This site appears to use a scroll-linked positioning effect. This may not work well with asynchronous panning; see https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/performance/scroll-linked_effects.html for further details and to join the discussion on related tools and features!

    I then updated ASE to 8.2.0 but the issue with the vanishing admin menu remains.

    Just to add to this, I’ve noticed that at times there seems to be a delay in the dashboard menu items loading too, everything else seems to load fine, then the text/links load in afterwards.

    If I disable the admin menu organizer, this issue goes away/

    It wasn’t like this in the previous release (8.1.4)

    I’ve decided to take a different approach to address the FOUC / layout shift issue than the one implemented in v8.1.4 and v8.2.0. Please update to v8.2.1 that’s just been released, and see if that fixes the issues you are seeing on your sites.
