Jon Foreman played a couple of new songs last night in his solo acoustic show in Tyler, Texas.

"My Coffin"

"Mercy's War"

^These songs prove once again why Jon Foreman is one of the most underrated lyricists in our modern age. Thanks to LOBH, here are the lyrics:

MERCY'S WAR
I was looking for excuses
And you offered me my soul
In the name of all my weakness
In the name of rock 'n roll

By His sickness I am healed
Cause they broke you I am whole
Oh the wonderful blood of Jesus

I went looking for the fig leaves
And you asked me what they're for
I was building up a wall
And you offered me a door

I was hoping for silver spoons
But you handed me a sword
Oh the wonderful blood of Jesus

Maker is unmade
Love succumbs to hate
Life Himself is slain
Is death the only way?
Is death the only way?

I went looking for religion
Absolutely not a friend
I went looking for ways out
And you showed me the way in

I went looking for a ghost
And instead I found a man
Oh the wonderful blood of Jesus

Felt like I was at the end
Felt like giving up on life
I talked about your mother
And denied you once or twice

Yeah I plucked out your beard
Put a sword into your side
Oh the wonderful of Jesus

Life and love are torn
By the blades of earthly swords
We cut the final cord
This is mercy's war
It's mercy's war

I was just chasing after safety
When my world went up in flames
I saw my defenses
Washed my ashes down the drain

I thought mercy was a stranger
But you called me out by name
Oh the wonderful blood of Jesus

Your wounds are gaping open
Couldn't recognize you at first
And all I had to offer you
Was an insult or a curse

Blood dripped down like poison
On the nauseated earth
Oh the wonderful blood of Jesus
Oh the wonderful blood of Jesus

This is mercy's war
This is mercy's war
Oh the wonderful blood of Jesus
^ I will be checking with the guys to make sure these lyrics are accurate, but if anyone has any corrections please feel free to make them in the comments!

(The ???? symbolize the lines I'm not sure of... again please feel free to add your thoughts in the comments!)
MY COFFIN
Dear blue sky
Are you afraid to die
Do you fear you'll never see the morning?

And the twilight comes
And you lose your sun
Does it come to you without a warning?

When the ???????
How will I know
When the carbon bonds that hold me
Start to let go

Is there someone buried
Beneath this skin?
And is he free when I am lost
In my coffin

Dear moonlight
When you shine at night
Do you fear you'll use up your resources?

With the sun as king
Do you feel for it's string
When the higher powers run their courses

When the rain falls down
What brings it back?
Opens the resurrected cloud
From white to black
It's a second birth
Under this skin
My coffin
My coffin

Yeah

Resurrection comes
But death comes first
All of our entitlements and rights
Will drive the hearse
I'm bleeding death
Death is unmade
The minute I lose myself I'm saved
From my coffin

"Heading Home" Narnia Demo

Switchfoot released one of their very early demos of the song that eventually became "This Is Home" to the Friends of the Foot recently. The working title was "Heading Home," and the lyrics are as follows:

HEADING HOME

All my life
I knew something was wrong
Love was a mystery
That I felt all along

There's a longing inside me for a dream
There's a longing built deep inside of me

I'm headed home
To a place I've never been on my own
But I'll know it when I get back home
To a place I've always belonged
I'm headed home
I'm headed home

All my life
I knew something was wrong
Love was a mystery
That I felt all along

There's a longing inside of me to believe

^It cuts off abruptly after that line. I would argue that this demo take of the song is much better than the final product. Of course, "This Is Home" was heavily influenced by Disney's writers, which could explain why a clearly superior demo got changed up.

However, this isn't to bag on "This Is Home," as it is still one of the great Switchfoot songs. It's just interesting to hear a new take. If you would like to hear it, check out this cover I put together real quick. (SORRY again for that shameless plug... ~sheepish~)

"Hallelujah... I'm caving in... I'm in love again..."

Here is a video bidding adieu to Indiana, and hello to the hurricane. Oh, by the way, it features the song "Always"(!)

^What do you think so far?

---------

Jon Foreman has begun tweeting with his very own Twitter account. Go on over and subscribe him! Also, he posted a little blog on Posterous:

goodbye gravity- hello hurricane... A portrait of a shattered guitar.

A few days ago I destroyed a friend of mine. A close friend that has been by my side for years. I know that smashing my guitar to pieces disturbed some of you. Let me tell you this: it was not premeditated. I hadn't planned on it. But when it happened it made so much sense. It had so much meaning. Breaking this guitar felt like an important thing to do- like killing something so other things could spring to life. Shutting one door so that I could move on... It was an incredible release to move from "that which has been" towards "that which is not". Not yet at least... So thank you for tolerating a random act of violence and recognizing the cathartic release behind the destruction. No one was hurt in the process and I feel much better now. thank you!

^I feel much better. :)

LOBH has the OFFICIAL lyrics to the songs we've heard so far from "Hello Hurricane." Thanks to Chad Butler, who emailed it to them!

NEEDLE AND HAYSTACK LIFE

The world begins
with newborn skin
We are right now

You're a needle girl
In a haystack world
We are right now

You breathe it in
The highs and lows
We call it living

- Chorus -

In this needle and haystack life
I've found miracle's there in your eyes
It's no accident we're here tonight
We are once in a lifetime

No, don't let go
Don't give up hope
All is forgiven

You breathe it in
The highs and lows
We call it living

All is not lost
All is not lost
Become who you are
It happens once in a lifetime

-------------------------------

MESS OF ME

I am my own affliction
I am my own disease
There ain't no drug that they can sell
There ain't no drug to make me well

There ain't no drug
There ain't no drug
It's not enough
The sickness is myself

- Chorus -

I've made a mess of me
I want to get back the rest of me
I've made a mess of me
I want to spend the rest of my life alive

We lock our souls in cages
Inside these  prison cells
It's hard to free the ones you love
When you can't forgive yourself

- Chorus -

I've made a mess of me
I want to reverse this tragedy
I've made a mess of me
I want to spend the rest of my life alive

-------------------------------

THE SOUND (JOHN M. PERKINS BLUES)

The static comes in slow
You can feel it grow
Our stream of conscience flows
Under the streets below

The rivers made of sound
Still running underground
Runs like a silent flood
We run as thick as blood

Can you hear it rise
Up from the ground
Can't drown it out
Can you hear it now

- Chorus -

This is the sound of a heartbeat
This is the sound from the discontented mouths
Of a haunted nation
We are the voice of breaking
Down
Can you hear me?
This is the sound of the desperation bound
By our own collision
We are the voice of breaking
Down

The static comes alive
Beneath the broken skies
John Perkins said it right
Love is the final fight

Let it rise above
Rise above
There is no song
Louder than love

-------------------------------

HELLO HURRICANE

I've been watching the skies
They've been turning blood red
Not a doubt in my mind anymore
There's a storm up ahead

- Chorus -

Hello hurricane
You're not enough
Hello hurricane
You can't silence my love
I've got doors and windows boarded up
All your dead end fury is not enough
You can't silence my love

Every thing I have I count as loss
Everything I have is stripped away
Before I started building
I counted up these costs
There's nothing left for you to take away

Hello hurricane
You can't silence my love

I'm a fighter fighting for control
I'm a fighter fighting for my soul
Everything inside of me surrenders
You can't silence my love

Hello hurricane
You can't silence my love

-------------------------------

BULLET SOUL

I want to sing one for all the dreamers
I'm singing this one for the sparks
Here's one for the friction makers
We are the bleeding hearts
Don't care whoever you are

- Chorus -
We rise and fall together
Our hearts still beat below
You can't stand by forever
You're a kid with a bullet soul
Are you ready to go?

I want to turn up the radiation
I want to glow in the dark
Love is the one true innovation
Love is the only art
Don't let 'em blow it apart

We are the children of the scar
We got to start from the start

-------------------------------

YET

All attempts have failed
All my heads are tails
She's got teary eyes
I've got reasons why

I'm losing ground and gaining speed
I've lost myself or most of me
I'm headed for the final precipice

- Chorus -

But you haven't lost me yet
No you haven't lost me yet
I'll sing until my heart caves in
No, you haven't lost me yet

These day pass me by
I dream with open eyes
Nightmares haunt my days
Visions blur my nights

I'm so confused
What's true of false
What's fact or fiction after all
I feel like I'm an apparition's pet

- Chorus -
But you haven't lost me yet
No, you haven't lost me yet
I'll run until my heart caves in
No, you haven't lost me yet

If it doesn't break
If it doesn't break
If it doesn't break
If it doesn't break your heart it isn't love
If it doesn't break your heart it's not enough
It's when you're breaking down
With your insides coming out
That's when you find out what your heart is made of
And you haven't lost me yet

THANKS LOBH!!!

"Every breath is magic...": This Is Home Movie Credits Version

Download HERE! (Thanks to "God Wins" from the official message boards for this amazing find!)

This is an interesting piece. I noticed that the lyrics in this version are drastically different from the actual Soundtrack version we have come to know and love. BUT, it is also incredibly different from the version found in the actual movie credits!

I've transposed the credits for the new version here:

"I've got my memories, always inside of me,
but I can't go back, back to how it was.
I believe you now, I've come too far,
and I cant go back, back to how it was...

Oh, oh, oh...
Oh, oh, oh...
Oh, oh, oh... I'm moving forward...

So everyday starts with a magic spark,
I've got my hopes high with second start,
we are miracles, every breath is magic...
So you give yourself away, with your miracle heart,
yeah, just to be alive is a magic art,
we are miracles, every breath is magic...

Belief over misery, I've seen the enemy,
and I won't go back, back to how it was.
And I got my heart set on what happens next,
I've got my eyes wide, it's not over yet,
we are miracles, and we're not alone...

That's when everyday starts with a magic spark,
I've got my hopes high with second start,
we are miracles, every breath is magic...
That's when you give yourself away, with your miracle heart,
yeah, just to be alive is a magic art,
we are miracles, every breath is magic..."

There you have it. The fourth version of "This Is Home" known to mankind. Weird, but I like this version too.
