The campaign period begins on July 17, 2022 and ends on December 3, 2022 (the Leadership Election Date).

Do I have to be a member of the BC NDP to vote in the Leadership Election?

Yes. You must be a member in good standing of the BC NDP.

When is the deadline to sign up as a BC NDP member in order to be eligible to vote?

The deadline to sign up as a BC NDP member and be eligible to vote is September 4, 2022.

What is the minimum age to join as a member of the BC NDP?

Membership in the BC NDP is open to individuals 12 years of age or older.

What if my membership lapses after the sign-up deadline - can I still vote?

If your membership lapses between September 4 and December 2 (the 90 day period prior to the Leadership Election Date), you must make a donation to the BC NDP to renew your membership and then you will be eligible to vote as though your membership had been continuous.

When is the voting period?

The voting period will be a maximum of 21 days, ending on December 2. The Leadership Election Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) will set the details of the voting schedule.

When will eligible voting members receive voting instructions?

Voting Instruction Letters will be mailed to all eligible voting members one week before the voting period begins.

What is the deadline for candidates to enter the leadership race?

The deadline to submit a completed nomination, including the first registration fee, is October 4, 2022. A second registration fee is due by October 19, 2022.

Does a candidate have to personally pay the registration fees?

No. A candidate cannot personally pay their registration fees. A candidate must fundraise the amount of the registration fees.

Who is eligible to run in the leadership race?

To be eligible to seek approval to stand as a candidate in the leadership race, you must be a member in good standing of the BC NDP for at least 90 days before the Leadership Election Date (having joined on or before September 4, 2022), must demonstrate a genuine interest in seeking the leadership and serving as the Leader, and must be eligible to stand for election to the BC Legislature.

Will there be any leadership debates?

Yes. There will be at least two official leadership events. The Leadership Election CEO will determine the details and schedule of the events.

Who can make a political contribution (donation) to a leadership candidate?

An individual must be a resident of BC and either a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to be eligible to make a political contribution to a leadership candidate.

The maximum amount an eligible individual can donate to a leadership candidate in the 2022 BC NDP Leadership Election is $1,309.09.
