More Critic Reviews for Unbelievable Season 1 All Critics (82) | Top Critics (24) | Fresh (80) | Rotten (2) Unbelievable unfolds slowly and methodically and without melodrama. Its eight episodes take the time to show the cost of sexual assault on its victims, and its deliberateness heightens the ironic sting of the series' title. Dec 23, 2019 | Full Review… John Powers NPR Top Critic This is a faithful adaptation that plainly lays out the victims' stories and lets the audience see for themselves how differently they were treated, down to every question. Sep 19, 2019 | Full Review… Sophie Gilbert The Atlantic Top Critic As thematically fascinating as Unbelievable can be, it's also often dramatically plodding, if not grueling. Sep 12, 2019 | Full Review… Inkoo Kang Slate Top Critic It's a tough watch, but it's a rewarding one, not just because it has one of the best ensembles of the year but because of what it says about hope and empathy. Dec 4, 2019 | Full Review… Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe Top Critic It's an incredible story, one that creator Susannah Grant adapts well for the most part. Dec 13, 2019 | Full Review… Alison Foreman Mashable A brilliantly structured cat and mouse story that's also about the growing trust and bond between the detectives in the war against the male status quo. Jan 13, 2020 | Full Review… Anne Brodie What She Said You know the saying that the truth is always worse than anything we could imagine or come up with. Well, this Netflix limited series is an example of that. Jan 10, 2020 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review… Carey-Ann Pawsey Orca Sound What sets Unbelievable apart from a show like Mindhunter is that it is, first and foremost, from the perspective of the victims and their female counterparts working against a predominantly male system of indifference. Dec 13, 2019 | Rating: 4/4 | Full Review… Adam Stafford The Skinny Unbelievable still manages to make this harrowing real-life story into a compelling fictionalized account, one that will make for a fulfilling binge-watch. Vinay K 3d ago The series was honestly unbelievable. It represents a story so many looked away from and acted like it never happened, but it did. Unbelievable takes you into the eyes of so many involved in this story. The series will definitely change your perspective of women having to experience this trauma and it is a must watch. Also, the portrayal of Marie Adler by Kaitlyn Dever was truly astonishing. Kaitlyn depicted Marie in a way that the viewer is left thinking this is a documentary and not a series based on a true story. Overall, Unbelievable is a series that is worth a watch for all of the appropriate ages because it will most definitely change ones perspective of these types of cases. Kathryn C Mar 09, 2020 Amazing. Eye opening. A must see show for all. Educates about the ways that rape us handled and touches on the opression of women in the job world. On top of all that it's a damn good show Kayla L Mar 08, 2020 Kaitlyn Dever is amazing. Lilly G Mar 06, 2020 5.7/10 — "Mediocre"/"Passable" -(Seen in FEB '20) Jedhua I Mar 01, 2020 Captivating. Two detectives with opposite personalities and experience join forces to track down a serial rapist. One of the most noteworthy elements that popped out was the refreshing void of pimped out Hollywood cops with perfect makeup and styled hair. The detectives' characters were complex and dedicated to their profession. The pace of the series was spot on, bringing the audience on the methodical journey as they put the clues together with the help of police specialists and dedicated teamwork. Nat W Feb 29, 2020 Brilliant television. Jan O Feb 17, 2020 Painfully sluggish beginning to this series...to the point where I almost gave up on it entirely. Now that I've seen the entire series, I wish I had trusted my initial instinct to bail. There will be some spoilers here but if you don't want to risk wasting 8 hours of your valuable time, I would read on. While I fully appreciate the serious subject matter and have real sympathy for the real sexual assault victims this series was based upon, the bottom line is that this was just another Netflix production made by SJW feminists who hate white men for an audience of SJW feminists who hate white men. I found myself checking off the typical woke checkboxes as I watched. All female team of detectives portrayed as super smart super heroes. CHECK! The WHITE male detectives were (of course) portrayed as bumbling idiots, misogynistic, incompetent and (worst of all) as disbelievers of a rape victim. CHECK! All the other men were (of course) non-white....and (of course) emasculated. CHECK! Oh and (of course) one of the female detectives (played by Toni Collette) had to be outspokenly and quite obnoxiously atheist who referred to God as a "mother F-er" at one point. (Bravo feminist God haters! You folks are just so woke and so edgy!). CHECK! But where they really jumped the shark was the way they ended this thing with the Marie Adler character 100% blaming the white male detective (who also accepted FULL responsibility) for having failed her. They completely ignored the fact that very early on in the investigation she couldn't get her story straight and when the understandably frustrated detectives pointed out the inconsistencies and pressed her for the truth, she finally (under no coercion) admitted that she made it all up. But as the series draws to a close, the clearly feminist writers of this series suddenly expect us to just disregard those rather significant details and want us all to just despise that terrible, misogynistic, non-believing WHITE detective for...."failing" Marie Adler. If you are the standard, run of the mill liberal feminist of the "me too" generation who despises white men, then by all means watch this series because you will be very pleased with all the boxes they checked off! You'll be in absolute heaven! Brian T Feb 17, 2020 "Unbelievable" was one of the most tangible stories in my life as a woman living in a society filled with hostility and the unsafe treatment of the female race. I received this mini series to be intensely realistic and the actors truly gave it their best in portraying their emotions. Maddie H Feb 15, 2020 It's the most heartbreaking, sad, disturbing, and terrifying story I've ever seen. Kaitlyn Dever is emotional, fragile, and extraordinary like Marie Adler who takes him to an unimaginable level, her character is a very fragile girl, hurt and scared by what happened. Seeing her, she will be an example to all women in the world, whatever happens, you have to report it, no matter what happens. CONCLUSION: Although it is very difficult to see, because of its explicit content, Unbelievable is a miniseries, based on real events, explained and narrated by Marie Adler (Kaitlyn Dever), after the very terrifying consequence it had, the dangers of a world in which good people do not exist and do not exist, and with only 8 episodes, they are enough to impress you and satisfy you with this controversial story today Jack L See all Audience reviews News & Features 150 Erotic Movies Coming attractions for you 2020's Most Anticipated Movies What and when to watch Video Game Movies Ranked 43 ranked worst to best Best Netflix Series and Shows What to watch right now More News & Features TOP HEADLINES Sundance 2020 Movie Scorecard – Rotten Tomatoes Everything We Know About The Lord of the Rings Amazon Series – Rotten Tomatoes 2019 Rotten Movies We Love – Rotten Tomatoes The 43 Most Anticipated Movies of 2021 – Rotten Tomatoes 100 Fresh Movies You Can Watch for Free Online Right Now – Rotten Tomatoes Who Is the Best Joker? – Rotten Tomatoes All 26 James Bond Movies Ranked – Rotten Tomatoes 100 Essential Spanish-Language Movies – Rotten Tomatoes More Headlines View All Results Go back More trailers
