In 2003 and 2004, the Ontario University Championships were held at the University of Western Ontario and Queen's University, respectively. These events served as predecessors to the wider Canadian University Championships which followed, starting in 2005. The name of the event has been variable, with "inter-university" and "post-secondary" occasionally standing in placing of "university," though the event structure has remained consistent: a team championship, consisting of 4-man squads, where standing is determined based on match points.
