Varieties of democracy (V-Dem) is an international research project which aims to develop new indicators of democracy in all countries all over the world from 1900 to the present. The project is lead by two parties - the V-Dem Institute at the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg and the Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame. The Principal Investigators are Michael Coppedge, Notre Dame University, John Gerring, Boston University, Staffan I. Lindberg, University of Gothenburg, Svend-Erik Skaaning, Aarhus University, Carl Henrik Knutsen, University of Oslo, Jan Teorell, Lund Universitet.
The new indicators of democracy have been collected in to a new database. The database's unique character brings out new questions about the nature of democracy, the growth and survival to be tested in a way that has never before been possible.

We are pleased to extend an invitation to attend the Policy Dialogue Day 2018 “New Research = Better Policies: Insights on Democracy, Governance, and Armed Conflict” in Gothenburg, Sweden, May 30, 2018.
This year’s Policy Dialogue Day is organized by the V-Dem (Varieties of Democracy) Institute, the QoG (Quality of Government) Institute, GLD-Gothenburg (Program for Governance and Local Development), UCPD (Uppsala Conflict Data Program) and ViEWS (a Political Violence Early-Warning System).
The annual Policy Dialogue conference bridges the gap between analysis and practice and aims to shed light on questions relating to democracy support and governance. The conference serves as a meeting platform for practitioners, policy makers, and academics.
