Goonhilly Earth Station (GES) Ltd is a new private company that was established to transform the Goonhilly site once British Telecom announced, in 2008, its plans to cease commercial operations there.
Founded by entrepreneur and satellite communications engineer, Ian Jones, the company has plans to redevelop Goonhilly into a 21st Century space science park centred around the unique infrastructure assets.
The GES Ltd model is to develop a long-term sustainable business by creating a diverse range of revenue streams, each of which contributes to the overall overhead costs. These are centred around commercial satellite communications, special satellite operations (such as telecommand and control), deep space communications, radio astronomy services, training and education, a public visitor centre, data centre and an advanced electronics and communications manufacturing centre. In addition, the vast site at Goonhilly will host third-party organisations.
Whilst, GES Ltd is a for-profit organisation, the Directors are very clear that wherever possible Goonhilly should support and inspire the community. We are developing a wide range of activities to engage young people in STEM education and the Arts.
