Michelle Griglione of Alexandria ended her illustrious swimming career tonight at the U.S. Olympic trials with another heartbreaking finish, less than half a second too slow to make the 1992 Olympic team.

Griglione, 22, a nine-time U.S. national champion competing in her third Olympic trials over eight years, made a valiant effort to qualify for the U.S. team in the 200-meter butterfly, but finished fourth, .44 of a second out of second place.

Griglione's time was 2:12.57. Summer Sanders, 19, of Stanford, won in 2:08.86 to earn her fourth individual spot on the team. Angie Wester-Krieg, at 27 the oldest woman to make the U.S. team, earned the other Olympic position with a second-place finish in 2:12. …
