The morality of "The Love Boat," a sudsy comedy that sails on in reruns, never weighed heavily on Gavin MacLeod while he was acting in it. But MacLeod, who played Capt. Merrill Stubing, now admits he has second thoughts about the show.

"There were a lot of innuendo kind of things," MacLeod said about some of the more provocative elements of the show. "But nothing like that ever happened to the captain. He was a very moral figure."

But it wasn't just the show.

"I'll go one better," MacLeod said. "If show business was like it is today when I was a little boy, I wouldn't want to get into it. Then it was escapism. Now, it mirrors society in a very bad way."

The veteran 55 year-old-actor now looks at the business differently, and selects projects with an eye toward their messages - ever since he and his wife, Patti MacLeod, became born-again Christians. …
