Construction of the Liangjiang International Cloud Computing Center, the largest of its kind in China, was commenced in the Shuitu High-Tech Industrial Park of Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing on April 6. The Chongqing Data Industrial Campus of the China International Electronic Commerce Center (CIECC), the first project of the program, was kicked off on that day. Mayor Huang Qifan attended the commencement ceremony and granted the center’s name plaque, other officials of the city including Weng Jieming and Tong Xiaoping were also present at the ceremony.
The Liangjiang International Cloud Computing Center is to take up a land of 830 mu, with an investment of CNY 40 billion and a gross floor area of 2,070,000 square meters.
“The commencement of construction of the Liangjiang International Cloud Computing Center is a key step for Chongqing to build the largest data processing center in Asia,” said Mayor Huang Qifan. The government intends to shape a development area of 10 square kilometers for could computing with about 200,000 various servers and routers and put data center rooms of hundreds of thousands square meters into use in this year, and finally build it into the largest cloud computing center in China. The government plans to attract data services outsourced by home and foreign enterprises to the Shuitu High-Tech Industrial Park in future two or three years, making the park one of China’s key bases of off-shore and on-shore data processing centers.
As the initial project of the center, the Chongqing Data Industrial Campus of CIECC will have over 50,000 servers with a total investment of CNY 1.6 billion. Upon completion of the project, the center will create the IT infrastructure and public service platform for governments and enterprises of Chongqing and the rest parts of Southwest China, provide them with a disaster recovery and backup system, and become the first service outsourcing platform of CIECC in West China.
