Former Union Minister Goyal passes away

Mumbai (PTI): BJP General Secretary Gopinath Munde on Thursday condoled the death of senior party leader and former Union Minister Ved Prakash Goyal, describing him as a dedicated worker.

Goyal worked for the organisation right from the Jan Sangh days, he said here.

"Ved Prakashji was a source of support and strength for all of us. He used to help us in times of crisis," Munde said.

The 82-year-old Goyal, who was a Minister in the Vajpayee-led NDA Government, was suffering from brain tumour and passed away at Hinduja Hospital here late Wednesday night.

He is survived by wife Chandrakanta Goyal, a former city legislator, two sons and two daughters. Born at Karnal, Haryana in 1926, Goyal, who was also BJP's treasurer, had settled here.

His funeral will take place at Sion here on Thursday.
