Í samræmi við varnarmálalög nr. 34/2008, sbr. lög nr. 98/2010, var Varnarmálastofnun lögð
niður frá og með 1. janúar 2011. Frá og með sama tíma tóku gildi samningar um ráðstöfun
þeirra verkefna sem Varnarmálastofnun fór með og falla undir varnarmál samkvæmt
ofangreindum lögum til embættis Ríkislögreglustjóra og Landhelgisgæslu Íslands.
Áfram verður starfrækt starfsstöð á öryggissvæðinu á Keflavíkurflugvelli, s: 425-5000.
Pursuant to the Defence Act no. 34/2008, as amended by Act no. 98/2010, the Icelandic
Defence Agency (IDA) was abolished as of 1 January 2011. On that same date, agreements
entered into force allocating the defence-related functions previously carried out by the IDA to
the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police and the Icelandic Coast Guard. Operations continue to be carried out within the security zone at Keflavik Airport, tel: (354) 425-5000.
