Enhanced driver license/
ID card
We began issuing an enhanced driver license (EDL) and enhanced ID card (EID) on January 22, 2008. The EDL/EID securely denotes identity and citizenship, and is an acceptable alternative to a passport for re-entry into the U.S. at land and sea border crossings.
