FIFA 12 sells 3.2 million in one week - EA

Publisher estimates football simulation's sell-through as "the most successful launch in EA Sports history," calls it the biggest launch of 2011 so far.

The world's most popular sport has produced EA Sports' biggest game launch to date. Electronic Arts today announced that FIFA 12 sold through an estimated 3.2 million copies in the first week after its September 27 North American debut, enough to be dubbed "the most successful launch in EA Sports history."

FIFA 12 hurdled the launch performances of every prior EA Sports game.

EA says that total--based on its own preliminary estimates--qualifies FIFA 12's launch as the biggest of any sports game ever, and the biggest of any game released in 2011 to date. The publisher also revealed a few other stats from the game's launch, saying sell-through is up 23 percent year-over-year, with the iPhone and iPad versions combining to sell 879,000 copies. It also pushed EA Sports' online servers to their busiest day ever, with players logging 10 million sessions in the label's games, nearly 8 million of those accounted for by FIFA 12.

Among the headline features in FIFA 12 are the new Player Impact Engine and new dribbling mechanics in an effort to deliver a more realistic touch on the ball. Defense has likewise been tweaked, with a greater emphasis being placed on position play and ball interception. The publisher is also introducing the EA Sports Football Club feature, a free service that offers news and updates on the real-world sport.

    So this is one of those times where "EA its in the game" the company slogan makes sense. Soccer or football as the European peoples call it is the worlds most popular sport. Even though in America no one gives a Rats Arse about soccer.

    @LondonGamer986 You can take it back.. they have this on options menu!
    they call it legacy defending which is excactly like the previous games but you can't use it in online matches!! btw love the new fifa although i too have some trouble with tactical defending but i suppose i'll get used to it eventually!! Great work EA !!

    It's selling very well but I think Gears of War 3 sales would've surpassed if it was multiplatform

    It has nothing to do with advertisements. This was caused by the fact that the cracked version of Fifa 12 is useless without the lan mode and a lot of those fans were forced to buy the game.

    I've stoped playing FIFA in 2002 ......Nice to see that football/soccer (for USA) games are big sellers, personally I don't see the point but what the hey keep it gooing

    wow september was a prety awesome month for publishers Gears3 did 3mil and now FIFA12 did 3.2mill, not being a big soccer (sports) fan am not too excited about this but am get it way way later (i hav plenty of soccer fans friends)

    Getting FIFA, NHL, and NBA 2K11 at Christmas. Gonna be my first sports games since '09, and I figure waiting a couple years before an upgrade is better then buying yearly like a tool.

    Fifa 08 was the first game I bought when I got my PS3. I enjoyed that game for about 2 years non-stop. I might just buy '12, but only if the online is much better, 08 was a lagfest all the time.

    I love the game personally, and I am a fully proclaimed soccer/football fanatic. Glad to hear it's doing well, the developers really did put some hard work into it and it shows.

    Good to hear, this is the best soccer game ever, the improved defense is a HUGE addition imo. Glad to see a good game sell well.

    I got this at launch and as a life long FIFA fan (I've played ever single one of them) this is probably the best FIFA game ever. Maybe some of the ones in the later 90's made larger jumps in quality but there was a lot of room to do that. FIFA 12 is a near dead on soccer sim and a robust package of game modes done at a very very high quality. It takes some getting used to but this game is much better than FIFA 10 or 11.
