Ferries depart at 9am, 11am and 1pm, weather permitting, from Nelson Mandela Gateway, at the V&A; Waterfront in Cape Town. From 2nd May 2011 tickets costs will be R220 for adults and R110 for children (U/18). More about Robben Island Tours...

Robben Island Museum

From the 17th to the 20th centuries, Robben Island served as a place of banishment, isolation and imprisonment. Today it is a World Heritage Site and museum, a poignant reminder to the newly democratic South Africa of the price paid for freedom.

Did you know?

Early Robben Island conservation efforts date back to the 1650s, when colonial governor Jan van Riebeeck issued strict instructions that passing vessels limit their Island foraging to one penguin per two sailors per day.
