The Town of Guilderland is developing a Neighborhood Master Plan for the Hamlet of Guilderland Center. The Hamlet of Guilderland Center contains a variety of residential, commercial, industrial, educational, recreational, cultural and historic resources; but it has never been the focus of an effort to link these resources in a cohesive manner or to assist with the evolution of the community in a way that that maximizes its potential. The Town of Guilderland's Comprehensive Plan (2001) included a recommendation to conduct a follow-up study of Guilderland Center that would deal with issues such as traffic, access management, land use conflicts, streetscape and architectural guidelines, the buffering of residential areas, neighborhood fragmentation, and the development of a complementary mix of uses consistent with the concept of a country hamlet. A May 7th public workshop was the first opportunity for the community to participate in the development of this study. The workshop served as an introductory presentation about the hamlet and the planning project, as well as a facilitated discussion about the issues of concern that should be addressed through the plan. The Town of Guilderland received a Community and Transportation Linkage Planning Program (Linkage Program) grant from the Capital District Transportation Committee (CDTC) to support this study. The study is being conducted by Behan Planning and Design with Creighton Manning Engineering and CDTC. The Town of Guilderland and a Steering Committee of residents from the hamlet are overseeing this work.
