Members of the USARAF/SETAF OSJA participate in a Staff Ride to Monte Grappa. Monte Grappa served as a major battle ground during WWI and was the site of several battles including the final battle on the Italian front during WWI. CPT Hector Higuera, Military Law Attorney TRADOC OSJA, welcomes Army Air Force and Navy personnel to the 2011 TRADOC OSJA Joint Service Law Day tours at the Casemate Museum. Paul Morando, Director Casemate Museum, followed CPT Higuera with a presentation on Fort Algernourne. As early as 1608 Captain John Smith recognized the importance of building a fort at Point Comfort as the English colonists called this land. In 1609 they built Fort Algernourne in what would later become Fort Monroe with the mission of protecting the approaches to the colony at Jamestown. Image posted on 20110627
Fort Meade Legal Personnel on a staff ride to Monocacy Battlefield. On 26 May 2011 the U.S. Army Claims Service sponsored a staff ride for all legal personnel in the Fort Meade area to the Civil War battlefield of Monocacy, near Frederick, Maryland. The battle, which was fought on 9 July 1864, resulted in a Confederate victory, although the resulting delay is credited with saving the capital of Washington D.C. from invasion. On 6 May 2011 COL Samuel Smith, TRADOC SJA, hosted the 2011 TRADOC OSJA Joint Service Law Day Celebration at Fort Monroe, Virginia. Fort Monroe is scheduled for BRAC closure in September so this was the last Law Day event to be held by the U.S. Army at Fort Monroe. The celebrations consisted of a series of presentations at the historic Casemate Museum a luncheon and a keynote address by Mr. Fred Borch, The JAGC Regimental Historian and Archivist.
