A Brief History
SENS Foundation was launched in March, 2009 as a new and independent organization, with a mission to develop, promote and ensure widespread access to regenerative medicine solutions to the disabilities and diseases of aging. We have since clarified our mission statement to focus on our core goals: SENS Foundation works to develop, promote and ensure widespread access to rejuvenation biotechnologies which comprehensively address the disabilities and diseases of aging. Rejuvenation biotechnologies encompass the application of regenerative medicine - defined in its widest sense, to include the repair of living cells and extracellular material in situ - to the damage of aging.
Our work builds upon many important research programs that were initiated by Methuselah Foundation. Methuselah Foundation is an organization with a core mission of ending age-related disease through awareness, education, scientific research, and direct community outreach. Its activities have included the Mprize mouse longevity prize program, and SENS research initiatives. It continues under the leadership of its Founder and CEO Dave Gobel.
In April, 2009, Methuselah Foundation transferred its SENS research initiatives, along with supportive grant funding, to SENS Foundation. These initiatives include the important LysoSENS 7KC and A2E degradation projects; MitoSENS allotopic expression program; OncoSENS cerebral epimutation research; ApoptoSENS rejuvenation efforts; and policy research initiatives. They include projects at several colleges and universities as well as research efforts managed through our own institute. We wish to acknowledge Methuselah Foundation key role in initiating and growing these programs, and reproduce below our initial joint release announcing the divestment of the SENS research initiative to SENS Foundation.
If you are an existing Methuselah Foundation donor, with a recurring donation which began prior to April, 2009, you may wish to read the additional information on our Donate page.
