Kimberly Guilfoyle Newsom: San Francisco's First Lady Pursues Her Career In New York

Kimberly Guilfoyle Newsom

Kimberly Guilfoyle Newsom, the wife of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, is making waves in New York as she pursues her media ambitions. She appears on "Good Morning America." anchors Court TV, and also appears on CNN.

Today's San Francisco Chronicle has an interesting story on Guilfoyle Newsom.

Here are some of the more insightful excerpts.

On being the First Lady of San Francisco:

Flanked by Gatti and People magazine PR director Nancy Valentino, she fidgets tomboy-like in her black lace cocktail dress as she is introduced to (San Domenico) restaurant manager Maris Bocognano.

"Kimberly is married to the mayor of San Francisco," Gatti explains.

"Aha!" says Bocognano. "So do people call you 'first lady?' "

Guilfoyle Newsom collects herself, and smiles graciously. "I prefer the Italian version: prima donna."

People who know Guilfoyle Newsom, the Mission District-born daughter of an Irish cop and a Puerto Rican schoolteacher, would be hard pressed to pin the negative connotations of that tag on her. She may be married to San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and hobnob with some fancy people, but Guilfoyle Newsom is no D.A. Barbie.

On her bicoastal marriage:

"Why can't a couple have two major careers? And why is it weird for the woman to be the bicoastal one? Men do it all the time! To these people who question our marriage, I want to ask: How is your marriage doing? Mine is just fine. If you have respect and love for each other, there's no reason this can't work out great for everyone."

On making more money than The Mayor:

"Now Gavin has a sugar mama," she grins. "I've told him I'm putting him on an allowance."

On children:

"I adore children. I used to teach. Gavin does, too. He worships Tali. But we made a decision to not have kids right away. We have plenty of time. And we both have a lot we want to do first."

During the San Francisco mayoral campaign, we found Kimberly to be smart and driven, with a good sense of humor as ballast. We're glad to see that New York hasn't changed her.

I can't stand her. She's a "prima donna" all right. Gavin has horrible taste in women. Remember his last gf was the airhead that Don Johnson stole away? If Don Johnson can steal your girl....I mean, really, Gav.

Not only that but she plays up her Puerto Rican thing all too often.

She's puke in my mind. Puke. And she's got a lot of ambitions for herself, why do you think she married Gav? He's too stupid to see it.

I don't think this marriage is going to last either. Bring us some more gossip about them. I can't stand them!

Tim,
I hate to burst your bubble, but that article about Ms. Guilfoyle-Newsom was accurate. Unless you are oozing with money, wear expensive designer clothing and have strong socialite connections, Kimberly will want nothing to do with you. She is addicted to publicity and is way too in love with herself. Go ask Vanessa Getty quietly and off the record what she thinks of Ms. Guilfoyle-Newsom.

The SF media has some sort of love fest with Kimberly that the rest of us "regular folks" can't seem to understand. Frankly, I have yet to hear a positive word about her and I have several friends in SF that travel in her circles. They simply put up with her because of who her husband is.

That article was very accurate in describing her wanting to meet Jewel to tell her "I ended up Marrying Gavin". Give me a break. Typical Kimberly.

The good news is that us New Yorkers aren’t all "touchy feeley" like the good people in SF are. We don't put up with two-faced phonies. She already is a laughing stock here about the way she piles on the makeup when she walks around the West Village on the weekend. Her face is all cakey from it. People just look at her and shake their head. I almost feel sorry for her.

I could go on but will stop here.
