Draft OrderWelcome
“I am pleased to be able to introduce this new website which has been launched to keep you informed of the progress with Brentwood High Street Improvement Scheme.
“We are currently ahead of schedule on the Scheme, with the demolition of numbers 141 to 147 High Street now complete, along with the archaeological site visit. In the coming weeks we will see hoardings erected around the development sites displaying artistic impressions, giving a flavour of how the High Street could look when all works are completed.
“I am personally thrilled to be involved with the most significant improvement scheme to take place in Brentwood High Street, enhancing the local environment significantly, and with a multi million pound investment from Essex County Council, before the end of the year we will see significant transformations taking place.
“The High Street will remain open for the majority of the works with only a four week closure taking place during the school summer holidays and will be complete in time for the busy Christmas trading season.”
Councillor Mrs. Louise McKinlay, Leader of Brentwood Borough Council
Controlled Parking Zone
In light of the significant improvement scheme currently underway in Brentwood High Street, a temporary Controlled Parking Zone has been introduced.
The effect of the order is to prevent parking and stopping, which includes the setting down and picking up of passengers throughout the length of the High Street area.

Improving Brentwood High Street
Brentwood High Street is on its way to becoming one of the county's top retail destinations through a £7 million improvement scheme funded by Essex Council and supported by Brentwood Borough Council.
Work to revitalise the High Street is well underway and will deliver:
- An entirely reconstructed 600 metre surface along the High Street
- High quality design using quality materials such as granite
- Improvement of adjoining shopping streets
- Enhancement junctions to reduce congestion
- Improved pedestrian crossing points
- Enhanced bus waiting areas with real time information
- Reduced congestion through the creation of an effective bypass around the High Street
Further discussions are underway with key partners over a longer term programme of enhancements which will follow the delivery of the initial High Street Scheme.
Each week an update on the progress of the works will be provided, detailing the main areas affected by the works.
