Virtue/Moir teamed up in 1997. They became the first Canadians ice dancers to win the ISU World Junior Championships (in 2006). Moir's elder brother Danny competed at the international junior level as well and now coaches. His mother is a skating coach and his father played hockey. Virtue suffered from chronic exertional compartment syndrome on both shins, underwent surgery in September and was off the ice until beginning of December 2008.
