Official announcement expected Saturday
Azerbaijan: Eurovision performer selected
About 40 singers responded to the Azerbaijani broadcaster's call for songs, among them Nura Suri, Gunesh Abbasova, Aysel Teimurzadeh, Arzum, Azad Shukurov, Vusala Seidova, Emin Hasan, Elnara, Natavan Habibi and Sevda Yahyaeva. Although the decision of ITV was expected some time towards the end of 2008, it is now believed that they have just decided that newcomer RnB singer Aysel Teymurzadeh, who is hardly known in Azerbaijan, will represent the country in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Tomorrow (Saturday) a press conference will be held in Baku when the singer will be presented as the country's entrant for Moscow.
Although in November last year, the plan of the Azeri broadcaster was to hold and equally impressive national final this year as the 2008 Land of fires, it still remains to be decided how the song will be selected. ITV has launched an open call for song and Interested composers are now invited to submit CDs with their entries over the next week. There are no major restrictions regarding the writers but the entries of course have to follow the general Eurovision Song Contest rules.
In 2008, Azerbaijan debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest. Elnur & Samir finished 6th in the first semi final and 8th in the final in Belgrade with their entry Day after day.

Alex 31st
Sorry, I can't see the similarity between "Day after day" and "The white one is evil", though the latter was great too
Good luck to Azerbaijan !
Yeah I think Sirusho's song was more entho-pop, but she has released alot of r'n'b songs like "I still breathe", "Miayn Qez", "All I ever wanted", "Arzhani e" and "Ser e sa" all of which are great
it seems to be a nice surprise from azerbaijan cause nobody knows anything (or knows a little bit) about Aysel Teimurzadeh...
@deni what sirusho sang wasnt r&b
I don't see any similarity between "Day after day" and "The white one is evil"

Aysel Teymurzade will present Azerbaijan.
(başarılar) good luck azerbijan from turkey
Good luck to Azerbaijan..I'll be prepared for their entry this time..I'll keep ear plugs close to me
lets hoipe the somg is better than the screaching noise they sent last year. one of the worst esc entries ever . only came so high cos it was a new eastern contestant
"it is now believed that they have just decided that newcomer RnB singer Aysel Teymurzadeh":
Well rap has never gone down well at eurovision, thats a fact
But Azerbaijan did manage to get 8th place with a fusion of pop-opera-rock and traditional Azeri singing, so I can't see why they can't pull rap off
I think Azerbaijan has to be the country taking the contest the most seriously at the moment, I mean Land Of Fire was held in an arena big enough for ESC, and it was only their first national final!
Good luck Azerbaijan
AZERBAİJAN !!! i hope it will be a good choice.
OMG no land of fire?
Thats a shock, considering how impressive and huge the show was last year, maybe its gonna be land of fire with a different format?
Fingers crossed
