Disclaimer:Considerable additional research has been done into the background of these newly accepted Foundation Horses. The process of research into the background of all Al Khamsa horses is ongoing. This preliminary information is provided as a curtsey to aid fellow researchers and is not necessarily intended to represent the final published version of information on any particular horse. Roster horse information may be updated as the information is identified and becomes available to Al Khamsa.

Information on all bloodlines added to the Al Khamsa Roster since publication of Al Khamsa Arabians II will be presented in the upcoming edition, Al Khamsa Arabians III, which is in the planning process at this time.

AL KHAMSA is a not-for-profit corporation whose purpose is to educate the public about Al Khamsa Arabian Horses so that those horses may be available for future generations. Al Khamsa  pursues its purpose through various activities one of which is the maintenance of the roster of horses of interest to Al Khamsa.

The ROSTER is defined as the list of names of living Al Khamsa  breeding stock.
“Al Khamsa Arabian Horses” are listed in the Al Khamsa Directory and it’s sequels. Restrictions on changes concerning the Roster of Al Khamsa horses and the ancestors thereof are governed by procedure within the bylaws.

However, these restrictions do not apply to changes in descriptive material concerning such horses which are in order as a matter of historical record or to routine changes necessary to maintain Al Khamsa publications in a useful, current way.

The horses of primary interest to Al Khamsa, which are called “Al Khamsa Arabian Horses,” are those horses in North America that can  reasonably be assumed to descend entirely from bedouin Arabian horses  bred by horse-breeding bedouin tribes of the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula without admixture from sources unacceptable to Al Khamsa.
The status of horses of interest to Al Khamsa is not entirely governed by written documentation. Al Khamsa will not take, as necessarily authoritative, information concerning the pedigrees of horses from any  source(s), including registries.

Al Khamsa will not give preferential treatment to any breeding program, breeding group, individual horse or theory of breeding within the bloodlines of interest to the organization, nor will Al Khamsa make or publish official statements impugning the purity of any Arabian horse, whether of Al Khamsa or other bloodlines.

Adding a horse to the Al Khamsa roster is an extended process taking a minimum of 2 years and longer if determined by the Board of Directors. The procedures for proposing a change to the Roster of horses are spelled out in detail in the Al Khamsa by laws.

The exact process is a bit more complex than what follows and the exact process MUST be followed as spelled out in the bylaws for roster changes, but a short paraphrase of the process is:
  • An individual sends their request to Al Khamsa along with any supporting evidence to support their change request.
  • The Board of Directors receive, review and discuss in detail the evidence provided with the request for the proposed change to the roster. If the proposal receives a 2/3 majority vote, in favor of the proposal, by the Board of Directors then the proposal and supporting evidence is presented to the Advisory Council (Advisory Council only exists during an official meeting of Al Khamsa).
  • At the annual meeting the Board of Directors will discuss and vote on the proposal. To pass, a roster change requires a 2/3 Majority of directors present and voting, in favor of the change. If the proposal receives the required positive vote from the Board of Directors then it is presented to the Advisory Council during the annual meeting. Again, to pass the roster change must receive a positive vote from a 2/3 Majority of the Advisory Council.
  • If the request receives both positive votes then the roster change is recorded as passing the first year voting requirements.
  • At the next annual meeting the same procedure is followed. The old information will be reviewed and any new pertinent information that may affect the vote will be discussed by the Board of Directors prior to their second year vote The same will be presented to the Advisory Council along with a recap of the previous information prior to their second year vote.
  • If the proposed roster change receives the required approvals the second year immediately following the first year than it is added to the roster of Al Khamsa arabian Horses.
  • If at any time during the 2 year process any of the above 4 votes fails to receive the required 2/3 majority then the process stops at that point and the proposal fails.
  • The same roster change may not be reproposed for a period of at least 5 years unless new substantiating information not previously available is received.
