Honorary MBEs are awarded to Corrs

The Corrs have been awarded honorary MBEs by Britain's Queen Elizabeth in recognition of their contribution to music and to charity.

The three Corr sisters, Andrea, Caroline and Sharon, and their brother Jim accepted their honours from the British Ambassador to Ireland, Stewart Eldon, at his residence in Dublin.

The Corrs have played concerts to raise money for various charities, including victims of the Omagh bombing, and are active on behalf of Concern.

Presenting the awards, Ambassador Eldon said that he was sure that The Corrs' fans around the world would be delighted to hear they were getting the recognition they richly deserved.

Sharon Corr said that it was surprising "to receive an honour from another country but, for us, it was very nice for the reasons that it was given and the reasons it was given were our contribution to music and voluntary works."

Good, but no classic

Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace

Rating 3

A good album with a few songs destined to become live favourites. However it won't be the first Foo Fighters' one you reach for in the future.

Eminently likeable

Common - Finding Forever

Rating 4

This may not be the most groundbreaking rap album you'll ever hear, but it is eminently likeable.

Deserves to be remembered

Future Kings of Spain - Nervousystem

Rating 4

While their first album was a fine collection of guitar rock, the jump in songwriting depth and confidence from that to this is startling.
